Misbehaving Macaque Vexes Taitung City Residents|落單獼猴闖台東市區 破壞環境難捕捉

There are frequent incidents of macaques destroying farm crops in Taiwan. Recently, Taitung City residents reported a solitary macaque intruding into a residential area, disturbing inhabitants and destroying plants. Personnel from Taitung County's Agriculture Department attempted to catch the macaque, but it was too smart for them.


A solitary macaque climbs onto the roof of a guesthouse located near Taitung Railway Station. It scuttles into the guesthouse, and destroys a security camera. Nearby residents woke up in the morning to discover that a papaya tree that had planted outside their home had been destroyed. There were also reports of this macaque destroying plants inside courtyards.

It knocks to rouse you from bed, around six a.m. to seven a.m.

Some residents said having a macaque wake them up was a unique experience. In July, this macaque moved into a NT$28 million mansion serving as a guesthouse that is for sale. It runs around with nearby dogs and cats at night, and also feeds on the milk left out for the cats. It is not afraid of humans or other animals. Taitung County's Agriculture Department tried on two occasions to capture the macaque, but the animal proved to be too smart. The department is now trying to convince it to leave by cutting off food sources.

We're removing all the food left by people and cats to see if it force it to leave.

Residents say the macaque hides in many places during the day, and goes on destruction sprees at night. Although macaques are no longer a protected species and may be captured, they are fast and agile animals that are hard to catch, especially in urban areas. Residents hope someone can come up with a better method to drive this macaque away.



這隻落單的獼猴，爬上台東火車站附近民宿的屋頂，民眾一個不注意牠就開始亂闖，還破壞監視器[提供 out]。有的民眾一覺醒來，發現住家外面種的小木瓜樹整個被折斷，還會跳進住戶的天井裡破壞花瓶的植物，讓民眾很困擾。

民眾 陳小姐表示：「這個都牠折的，這個整棵把我拔掉，我又把它種下去死了。」

民眾 李小姐表示：「會叫你起床，這樣敲，早上六、七點的時候。」

民眾說被獼猴叫起床的經驗還真的很特別，但更奇特的是，從今年7月開始，這隻獼猴就住在一棟2800萬等待出售的民宿豪宅裡，晚上會跟附近的貓狗一起行動，還喝貓奶，完全不怕人更不怕其牠動物，台東縣農業處也出動兩次誘捕籠誘捕，可是獼猴太聰明就是捉不到，現在只好改用斷絕食物來源的方法，讓牠自然離開。

台東縣畜產保育科長 饒和奇表示：「餵人餵貓的吃不完的，把它收起來，讓牠自然而然，看是不是能夠離開。」

民眾說，這隻獼猴白天會到處躲，晚上才出現四處破壞。雖然現在獼猴解除保育，可以捕捉，可是獼猴聰明又靈活，在市區特別難捕捉，希望有人能提供更好的辦法幫忙趕走這隻獼猴。
