While on his way to a bus stop, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-Je was stopped in his track by those who petition to change the name of Taiwan's team in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic. Ko proceeded without signing the petition. When asked about the incident during a later press conference on the medical treatment of drunk driving, Ko said he did not appreciate the forceful approach.

I respect that fact that a local civil group tries to express their political opinion. However, as the Taipei City Mayor, the head of management of a major city in Taiwan, I'll make my decision based with respect to the position of the central government.

Ko twice dodged the question on when he will register as a mayoral candidate. On the other hand, KMT Candidate Ting Shou-Chung completed his registration as an official candidate at the Taipei City Election Commission on Monday, August 27.

(Incumbent Mayor) Ko Wen-Je currently has a lot of supporters. He recently held a book signing event in Taipei City. So there is a different between the amount of support. Despite such difference, there have been plenty of cases in which candidates with less support turn the table. So there's not much to it.

During his official announcement to take part in the Taipei mayoral election, Ting said that he calls for a change of mayor to save Taipei City. Ting also expressed approval to the suggestion of independent candidate Lee Si-Kuen, who called for an open debate among all candidates.
