KMT Finalizes All Mayor Candidates Except in Hsinchu|新竹縣長提名喬不攏 掀馬吳心結?

The Kuomintang is finalizing its candidates for the year-end elections and Hsinchu County is the only one that has yet to be decided. Former KMT Chair Ma Ying-jeou and current Chair Wu Den-yih have differing opinions on the nomination process. On June 8, both attended a campaign rally for Taipei mayoral candidate Ting Shou-chung but they arrived separately.

Former President Ma Ying-jeou stumps for the Kuomintang's Taipei City mayor candidate, Ting Shou-chung. Ting will reportedly name former Premier Simon Chang and Legislator Chiang Wan-an as his campaign manager and deputy campaign manager.

Simon Chang is a good man and responsible worker who cares a great deal about public policy and Taipei's competitiveness as a city.

Ting praised Chang, but said he doesn't have any announcements to make at this time. The KMT has named its candidates in all municipalities except for Hsinchu County. The party's Central Standing Committee has revoked its primary nomination system in Hsinchu, reportedly to prevent popular candidate Lin Wei-chou from running. There are reports that Lin may run as an independent. Ma, a former KMT chair, says the party's primary mechanisms should be respected, but current KMT Chair Wu Den-yih disagrees.

This is all I can say. The "black box" can't save the KMT or the support rating of any politician.

Lin says he will see what the party does before making a decision but he hopes to run under the KMT banner. In related news, Ma and Wu's separate arrivals at Ting's campaign event sparked media speculation about a split in the KMT camp.
