Tainan Enlists Vietnamese Volunteers to Prevent Dengue Fever|阻境外登革熱 台南組越籍新住民防疫軍

In 2017, Tainan saw zero dengue fever infections from local sources, but there were some cases that came from abroad. The city has hired new immigrants to promote dengue fever prevention at Tainan Airport. They are promoting awareness and prevention of dengue fever in Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Mandarin, and English.
A Vietnamese volunteer is speaking to local Vietnamese in Taiwan about the importance of monitoring and managing one's symptoms. Tainan City saw a dengue fever outbreak in 2015, during which there were over 40,000 confirmed cases of dengue fever infection. The city's Public Health Bureau has since focused efforts on promoting the importance of monitoring and managing potential symptoms. Last year, Tainan saw no case of dengue fever infection from local sources. However, there were a number of cases where the virus was transmitted from carriers coming from abroad. The city has new strategies in place to tackle the issue.
We have placed Vietnamese new immigrants in several of our most popular airport terminals to promote (the importance of monitoring one's own symptoms). We believe this will be a very effective measure.
In the past, the Centers for Disease Control only worked on detecting potential dengue virus carriers. This year, the centers is working with Tainan City's Public Health Bureau and hired 5 Vietnamese new immigrants in order to promote the importance of monitoring one's own potential symptoms and raise the travelers' awareness on the matter.
Tainan City is the first city in Taiwan to have volunteers in place to promote such important information.
The flight between Tainan and Ho Chi Minh City has seen a steady increase of travelers since it began two years ago. As dengue fever season approaches, Tainan City is ramping up its efforts to minimize the potential number of dengue fever carriers entering its communities.
