A mother's day special telecom plan has fired up an incredible amount of queueing in stores. Chunghwa Telecom recently announced an unlimited data plan for just NT$499 per month, for a limited application period, causing queue ups of at least 500 people waiting per store. Chunghwa Telecom workers have had to work overtime, with some stores staying open until 2 in the morning.
It takes Chunghwa Telecom staff 10 minutes on average to serve one customer, and customers walking into the store have a 300-customer wait ahead of them.
My ticket number says 38. What does that mean? It means I am No. 338.
Many people complained on Facebook that CHT outlets were still filled with customers at 10 p.m. due to average waits of at least 500 customers. One location even reportedly stayed open until 2 a.m. The Huzhou outlet has just five counters, and staff have no way to keep up with the crush. They have faced long overtime hours in the last few days.
We still have other work to do after we get off work. My colleague doesn't get off work until after midnight. I don't get off work until 10 p.m

At the very least, the labor bureaus of the six special municipalities should conduct labor inspections at the stores. (Violations) are subject to fines of NT$20,000 to NT$100,000 under Article 79 of the Labor Standards Act.
The Chunghwa Telecom Workers' Union says the only way the company can resolve the "499 Chaos" is removing restrictions and extending the signup period so existing customers can enjoy the new rate as well. The National Communications Commission, meanwhile, says the issue is short-term and no labor or overtime laws have been broken. If this changes, it will look into the matter and ask CHT to submit a report.
