87-year old entertainer Sun Yueh has been hospitalized for inflammation in his bile duct. He was recently moved to the Intensive Care Unit. The John Tung Foundation said that Sun is currently in stable condition and they hope people will remember him in their prayers.


87-year old entertainer Sun Yueh is known for promoting the importance of quitting cigarettes, since he himself had smoked for 37 years. Sun still suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). In recent years, he has been hospitalized multiple times due to complications caused by COPD. Recently, he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to his worsening condition.

He suffered from new infections yesterday, which is part of the complications caused by COPD. The doctors suggested moving him into the ICU in order to receive better care.

The foundation said that Sun was hospitalized last month for stones in his pancreas. His condition improved and he could get out of bed. However, his COPD suddenly acted up and he had to be moved to the ICU, which helped stabilized his condition. The doctors said that 90 percent of COPD is caused by smoking since the nicotine element in cigarettes damages lung functions and leads to coughing and shortness of breath. This could eventually lead to deadly respiratory failure if not treated in time.

The lack of oxygen supply will cause respiratory failure. In other cases, CO2 cannot be properly exhaled, which leads to respiratory failure as well.
