The government plans to set up an office to deal with the falling birth rate. Currently, parents caring for children at home can draw an unemployed childcare subsidy of NT$2,500 and grandparents or parents who take care of children can draw NT$5,000. The CPA said that the figures show that giving out money has no effect at encouraging births and called on the government to face this fact.
