HUALIEN STRIVES FOR SITE OF THE NEWEST NATIONAL MUSEUM|花蓮原民數冠全台 爭取蓋國立原民博物館

The idea of a National Museum of Indigenous People has been under discussion for years. Eight counties and cities have expressed interest in having the museum located in their jurisdiction. Hualien, with the largest population of indigenous people, has strived for the museum to be located in its Xiulin Township. Originally during President Ma Ying-jeou's administration, there was consideration about building the National Museum of Indigenous People in New Taipei City. However, after considering the separation from indigenous areas may render it meaningless, the new government decided to choose a new site. New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Hualien and Yilan all actively sought to be chosen. Hualien County Government urged that Hualien has the highest indigenous population with 207 tribal villages, and over 200 annual ceremonial festivals. ==FU KUN-CHI Hualien County Magistrate== Hualien County definitely has the most indigenous tribes, the highest ratio of the population, we are willing to do our best so that our tribal villages and indigenous peoples' culture can be passed from generation to generation for a thousand years. As for the museum's venue, Hualien County Government feels that the deserted Xiulin Township Shuiyuan village's Dongfang Xiaweiyi theme park is a good site for construction. Up to 22 hectares of field was dedicated to the performance of indigenous dances, and nearby there are the Taroko, Ami and Sakizaya tribes.
