Taichung unveils first MRT electric cars / 中捷電聯車亮相 綠線預計明年試運轉

While the Airport MRT line has begun it's trial operations, Taichung City's first Electrical Multiple Unit cars were delivered to Taichung Harbor on Feb. 5. The Taichung MRT Green line is expected to be completed and begin test run by next year, and to operate fully by 2020. The stylish head car with green frame design delivers a sense of freshness. This is Taichung's first Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU), it was delivered to Taichung Harbor on Feb. 5th. ==LIN CHIA-LUNG Taichung City Mayor== The MRT Blue Line was approved by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The Blue and Green Lines intersects with each other and they are to become Taichung's major rail transportation. The EMU was made by Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The unit was tested and delivered to Taichung for test run. The EMU will be Taiwan's first unmanned joint-cars and able to carry 536 passengers. ==WANG YI-CHUAN Taichung City Transportation Bureau Director== Five minutes will be the frequency of service, because the Green Line passes through the end of Beitun Road, Wenhsin Road and finally the High-Speed Rail Taichung Station. This will be a very important access transportation for the High-Speed Rail Taichung Station. Taichung City stated in the future the EMU is to connect with Shanshou Line and harbor light rails for creating Greater Taichung Rails. The commissioned Taipei City Rapid Transit System Department said, the Green Line construction progress is about 67%. ==CHANG TSE-HSIUNG Taipei City Rapid Transit System Dept. Director== The station and rail are almost completed. The next phase will be integrating the newly delivered EMU with the station's electromechanical. The Department projects testing run by 2018 and fully operational by 2020. The EMU cars will be transported via roadways, and giving citizens a sense of MRT reality.
