Ten public hearings have been scheduled from Sat up until today, to discuss whether to lift the 5 year old ban on Japanese food products from 5 prefectures imposed after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. Protesters were present at every hearing held on Nov 12 and the 13 in Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. In particular, large groups of protesters gathered at the hearing that took place at the Agriculture and Food Agency. Supporters and protesters clashed and violence broke out.
KMT legislators, city councilors, and protesters took over the podium before the hearing even started to voice their opposition to food imports from nuclear disaster areas in Japan.
==PROTESTER==
There have been cases of cancer in Japan. Why are we still importing food from the nuclear disaster zones?
==PROTESTER==
No other countries have allowed Japanese food affected by radiation to enter their market. Taiwan will lose its dignity if it just opens up its market.
The 8th hearing on Japanese food imports to Taiwan was held at the Agriculture and Food Agency. Large crowds of protesters gathered in and out of the building. The scene turned chaotic as scuffles broke out among the supporters and protesters. 10 hearings have been scheduled within 3 days, with several of them held concurrently. The pan-blue supporters excoriated the Tsai administration for selling the people out and neglecting food safety. On the other hand, DPP spokesperson Juan Chao-Hsiung condemned KMT councilors for disrupting the session and said that KMT chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu should apologize.
==JUAN CHAO-HSIUNG, DPP Spokesman==
These KMT councilors were trying to make a scene. We couldn't help but wonder if they were instructed by KMT chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu.
==LEE YEN-SIU, KMT Legislator==
President Ma Ying-jeou has resisted the pressure from Japan. Why did Tsai cave in? What kind of political gain did she get in return?
The Council of Agriculture said that they organized the 10 hearings as instructed by the legislature. This hearing is invalid since they were unable to conduct the session.
==CHEN CHI-CHUNG, Agriculture Council Vice Chair==
We conducted the process in accordance with the legislature's proposal. It is regrettable that we were unable to hold the hearing today.
(Were you told to hold these hearing within a day?)
The legislators met on Monday, and we announced the 10 hearings on the Agriculture Council website on Wednesday.
Protesters occupied the podium until 5 in the afternoon. The hearing was therefore unable to be convened. The DPP stressed that they will control food imports based on international standards and scientific evidence.

==民眾==
==民眾==
