Lin Denies All Thesis Plagiarism Allegations 爆論文抄襲爭議 林智堅告王鴻薇加重誹謗

To clear his name, current Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien held a press conference and ordered a lawyer to sue his accuser, Taipei City Councilor Wang  for slander. 

Rumors are swirling that Hsinchu City Mayor Lin Chih-chien plagiarized his theses. He not only held a press conference to proclaim his innocence, but also appointed a lawyer to file a lawsuit for slander against his accuser, Taipei City Councilor Wang Hung-wei, at the Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office on July 6. Lin said back in June, when he was drafted by the Democratic Progressive Party to run for Taoyuan City mayor, he heard that Kuomintang legislators had gone to National Taiwan University and Chung Hua University to ask for his theses in an attempt to destroy his reputation.

Lin Chih-chien, DPP Taoyuan City Mayoral Candidate: “This is obviously cognitive warfare, an attempt to question someone's integrity. I've been mayor for eight years, and if I were corrupt and abused the law during my time as mayor, this sort of thing would not be able to be contained. Perhaps they spent a lot of time and effort, but weren't able to find anything on this Lin Chih-chien person.”

Lin accused the KMT of smear tactics. During an interview, he once again claimed his innocence in the thesis controversy. He said he had given the materials for his thesis for National Taiwan University's Graduate Institute of National Development to Yu Cheng-huang. He also lamented that his road to academics was a bumpy one and he failed to get into university twice. Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je has said that Lin spent all his time going out to eat and drink, so he had no time to write a thesis. Lin also accused him of lying.

Lin Chih-chien, DPP Taoyuan City Mayoral Candidate: “You have to eat every day, but no one has to drink every day. That was such a cheap shot. Mayor Ko should know that I wasn't out drinking and socializing.”

Cheng Wen-tsan, Mayor, Taoyuan City: “You shouldn't ruin a person's reputation just for an election.”

Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan expressed his support for Lin and echoed his statement that this is a smear campaign. Media polls show that the thesis plagiarism controversy has boosted KMT candidate Simon Chang's support level to 48 percent. Lin said he will use the polls as a reference and added he hopes people will vote based on political views and track record.

按鈴提告，新竹市長林智堅爆出論文抄襲爭議，除了第一時間開記者會自清，6日更委任律師到新竹提檢署提告，台北市議員王鴻薇涉嫌加重誹謗，林智堅展開反擊，表示6月被徵召時就有聽說國民黨立委去台大、中華大要了他的論文，要對他進行人格摧毀。

民進黨桃園市長參選人林智堅表示：「這一看就是認知作戰，人格摧毀的作戰，其實我當市長8年了，如果我在市長任內有貪贓枉法，這種事情一定包不住，那顯然可能花了很多心力，找不到林智堅這個人的問題。」

林智堅表示國民黨選舉起手式是潑髒水，也在廣播節目上，再度澄清論文的相關爭議，強調台大國發所論文的資料是他給余正煌的，更說自己過去求學路坎坷，曾考2次大學都沒考上。對於台北市長柯文哲指他每天吃飯喝酒哪有辦法寫論文，林智堅也提出反駁。

林智堅說：「吃飯是每天都要吃的，但是沒有人每天在喝酒吧，他這種說法實在太廉價，柯市長應該也知道，我沒有在喝酒應酬。」

桃園市長鄭文燦則說：「不可能是為了選舉，就想要把一個人進行人格抹黑戰。」

鄭文燦力挺林智堅，認為這是抹黑戰，對於媒體民調指出，論文案讓國民黨桃園市長參選人張善政支持率提高到48%。林智堅表示民調會做為參考，希望選舉透過提政見政績，用正面方法贏得支持。
