Amongst all patients, one is a family member for Lin Chin-chieh, a councilor of New Taipei City.
Presenter: Ten of 25 people who were given undiluted Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines at Sanxia's En Chu Kong Hospital's Yingge District vaccination site remain hospitalized for observation. Doctors suggest patients double-check which vaccine they are getting before the medical worker administering it
Ten of 25 patients that were accidentally given undiluted BNT vaccines by Sanxia's En Chu Kong Hospital remain hospitalized and under observation. One of the 10 is a relative of New Taipei City Councilor Lin Chin-chieh. She has undergone multiple tests in the last two days but is in good spirits.
Lin Chin-chieh, New Taipei City Councilor vs Lin Chin-chieh's Sister-in-law:” I'm OK right now. My markers are a little high, so the hospital decided to order some additional tests. I'm getting an abdominal ultrasound today.”
Taipei Medical University Hospital pulmonologist Chou Pai-chien says different age groups will experience different side effects with undiluted vaccines and doctors will need to periodically check the biological markers and cardiac enzyme levels of the patients in question, along with regular electrocardiograms. Chou also says the patients should delay getting their second dose until their neutralizing antibody levels go down.
Chou Pai-chien, Chief of Pulmonary Medicine, Taipei Medical University Hospital:” (These patients should have their) biological markers and cardiac enzyme levels tested regularly, along with an EKG to see if they are at elevated risk for myocarditis from getting a quadruple vaccine. As for their second dose, it could be BNT or maybe another feasible choice.”
Starting Oct. 1, there will be four types of COVID-19 vaccines and flu vaccines being administered. Doctors say patients should double-check which vaccine they are getting with the medical worker administering their vaccine.
Zen Lin, Chair, ROC Primary Care Association:”Some vaccines need to be diluted and others don't. Some are packaged in multi-dose vials and others in single-dose vials. Medical workers need to take their jobs seriously.”
Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, which is taking over En Chu Kong Hospital's vaccinations, says it has plenty of procedural and clinical experience with vaccinations and it will follow proper pharmaceutical and medical protocol.
