Culture Minister Lee Yung-te recently said that he hopes protesters will take a more mild position and he doesn't support tearing down the hall or Chiang statues. Pro-independence groups were outraged and ended up throwing eggs at the Chiang statue inside the hall. This was something that someone proposed during discussions. However, there were others that proposed having the Ministry of National Defense withdraw the honor guard from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. These are all options. We still need to hold follow-up discussions with the Ministry of National Defense.
The commission said there needs to be a transition period plan before the formal transformation can take place. It has been coordinating with the Ministry of Culture on related measures, such as revising the guided tour content for the attraction. It also intends to coordinate on the issue of relocating the ceremony. The Ministry of National Defense said it will wait until an official decision is made and then take action. Meanwhile, the Taiwan 228 Care Association issued a statement on whether Chiang statues should be torn down. The statement informed Lee that he was wrong and that he should order the "removal of statues of murderers."
The existence of Chiang Kai-shek statues is very provocative. Those who are opposed not only include family members of 228 victims or White Terror victims, but also the people of Taiwan.
The association added that Chiang still enjoys "national protection" at CKS Memorial Hall and receives tribute from unaware tourists. It is demanding justice via the removal of "statues of murderers," and says the hall should be changed into the "Taiwan International Authoritarian Politics Research Center and Museum" to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Taiwan.
中正紀念堂如何轉型還沒定案，不過因為文化部長李永得日前一句「抗議者立場稍趨向溫和，不主張拆館與拆銅像」，引發獨派團體蛋洗蔣介石銅像。促轉會則表示，將建議國防部先將三軍儀隊移到戶外廣場表演，而不要在館內致敬。
促轉會副主會 葉虹靈表示：「這個是討論過程中，有人提出的選項之一。但是也有人提出說，那除了撤到戶外之外，是不是也乾脆請國防部儀隊，整個撤離中正紀念堂，這都是選項。但是就是說，我們還需要跟國防部，來做後續的討論。」
促轉會表示在正式轉型前，必須要有過渡期方案，而且近期一直與文化部協調相關措施，像是中正紀念堂的導覽摺頁內容做改變等，至於三軍儀隊表演移到戶外，也會積極協調，國防部則回應等正式定案將配合辦理。只是銅像拆不拆，二二八關懷總會發聲明表示，李部長您錯了，要求「將殺人凶手的銅像移除」。
二二八基金會執行長 楊振隆表示：「那尊大黑人(蔣介石銅像)在那裡，實在是很諷刺，這不是二二八家屬，或是白恐受難者在反對 ，對台灣人，這個也沒辦法忍受。」
二二八關懷總會表示，蔣介石至今還繼續在「中正紀念堂」受國家保護、接受不知歷史的遊客膜拜，他們要求正義，將殺人凶手的銅像移除，將廳堂改為「台灣國際威權政治研究中心暨博物館」，紀念為台灣犧牲奉獻的先賢先烈。
