50% of Peanuts in Yunlin County Lost After Heavy Rain|花生收成期遇連日大雨 雲林災損近5成

The continuous heavy rains has flooded the peanut fields in Yunlin County, destroying 30 percent to 50 percent of the peanut pods as many have rotted. Some farmers have thus asked for subsidies to help offset the damages. In response, the Food and Agriculture Agency said that it will put subsidies in place if the losses have reached the required threshold.


It is currently peanut harvest season, however, many peanut pods in Yunlin County have rotted or germinated due to prolonged submersion in water during the continuous rain these past few days. The local farmers pull out the peanuts to show that about 30 percent to 50 percent of the peanuts have been damaged. Some say that if they harvest these peanuts, the cost for harvesting probably couldn't be recuperated.

We've suffered heavy losses. And it's not just in this area, we have to remove the plants from this entire field and we won't recuperate anything.

All the peanut pods in Beigang Township have rotted, we hope the local government can provide subsidies. And we hope we won't have to go to the local district office one by one to apply for it.

A local peanut farmer in Yunlin County said that it costs NT$16,000 to plant peanuts in a field measuring 0.97 hectares and they hope that the agricultural council can provide subsidies to peanut farmers. The Yunlin County government said that they hope the central government could relax rules and set up standards for subsidies in a speedy and simplistic manner in order to allow the farmers to receive help as soon as possible.

We hope local district offices can work with the County government and the Agriculture Council to apply (for subsidies) for the farmers in three days.

The government has its own rules and procedures. If the loss has reached our standard, the government certainly has no problem and will announce the subsidies.

The Agriculture and Food Agency said that some of the agricultural losses will emerge only after the heavy rain. As peanuts cannot be harvested immediately after the rain, many have rotted in the scorching sun. The agency has called on local farmers to report their losses as quickly as possible so that the agency can provide subsidies based the area that's been affected.



目前剛好是雲林縣一期花生採收期，但受到前陣子大雨影響，陸續出現花生爛掉發黑和發芽的災損，農民隨手拔起花生，整串花生損害程度3成、5成都有，有農民就說若要採收恐怕會不夠成本。

北港農民表示：「因為這損失真的很嚴重，不是只有我們這裡，還有其他地方都準備要耕鋤掉，這些都無法收成了。」

北港農民表示：「我們北港的花生，整個都爛光了，是不是能夠全面來補助，全面(補助)不要再讓農友，再來收成期了，不用再跑到公所，一個一個辦理。」

雲林花生農表示，花生1甲地成本要1萬6000元，出現這樣災損，希望農業單位針對花生全面救助，對此雲縣府希望中央，能從寬、從速、從簡來認定救助標準，將雲林公告花生救助區域幫助農民。

雲林縣長 張麗善表示：「我們希望也拜託公所，三天內公所與縣政府農業處，大家極力配合，趕快把農民，目前的情況，大家來做一個申請。」

農糧署中區分署雲林辦事處主任 劉信良表示：「政府就是要有個規定，有個程序要走，這個部分，今天來勘災，如果說我們已經達到救助標準，政府一定沒問題，政府一定會去公告。」

農糧署表示，大雨過後有些農作災損才會慢慢出現，其中花生因為雨後無法立即採收，再加上大太陽，讓花生爛掉、發芽情況嚴重，呼籲有災損農民要趕緊通報，農糧署才能依據災損面積來公告救助。
