The local elections are right around the corner, and both the Kuomintang and Democratic Progressive Party released campaign ads on Nov. 15. The KMT focused on how the central government has lost popular support during the DPP's two years in office, while the DPP highlighted its construction and reforms, and criticized the KMT for blocking policies.
Less than 10 days remain before the nine-in-one elections. On Nov. 15, the Democratic Progressive Party released a campaign ad highlighting its infrastructure and reforms. The ad also criticized the Kuomintang for blocking the DPP's policies during the two years it has controlled the central government. Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor served as the soundtrack.
Everyone can see the opposition party has chosen to destroy the conducting tempo in the legislature and local governments. It chooses personal glory in local governments.
Meanwhile, the KMT's campaign ad focused on the hardships people have faced during President Tsai Ing-wen's two years in office. The ad started with enormous piles of bananas and pineapples that were set to be destroyed to show the pain of farmers.
The ad also reviewed the government's failures during the past two years, including failures related to the 2017 nationwide blackout, labor rights, flooding in southern Taiwan and air pollution. It also used irony to respond to Tsai's statements.
Tsai Ing-wen right now is incapable of facing up to the ruling party's incompetence, so all she can do is talk about how there is fake news and Taiwan is being cyberbullied.
Both parties hope these ads will appeal to the sentiments of the public, and translate into votes.
