The southwest current is bringing heavy rain to Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung. Tainan's Cigu received the most rainfall, with 217.5 millimeters of rain being recorded. A mini-waterfall even formed on Jichang Road, which runs between South District and Rende District. Rende's Taizi Road and Yunong Road have flooded, stalling mopeds and forcing shops to move their wares elsewhere.

Twenty to 30 centimeters of water have accumulated in Taizi Road and Yunong Road's culvert and police have closed the roads. According to the Central Weather Bureau, the 10 areas that received the most rain as of 9:30 a.m. on the 20th were all in Kaohsiung and Tainan. Tainan's Cigu ranked first with 217.5 millimeters, followed by Kaohsiung's Lujhu with 172 millimeters. While many downtown areas flooded, there was also good news as water levels rose at Tsengwen and Wushantou reservoirs. The Southern Region Water Resources Office says this bodes well for rice farmers.

Tsengwen got 170 millimeters of rain yesterday, while Nanhua (Reservoir) got 150 millimeters. By our estimate, the two reservoirs got close to 120 million tons of water.

The office also says water restrictions in Tainan may be lifted. In related news, the Chianan Irrigation Association has divided the 40,000-plus hectares of rice paddies in Chiayi and Tainan into six irrigation zones. Officials will meet on the 21st to decide which areas get priority.
