Republic of China Navy Honor Guard Su Chi-lin reporting, sir! The drill is complete.
Republic of China Navy Honor Guard Private First Class Su Chi-lin recently traveled to the United States to participate in the World Drill Championships. His routine included general rifle techniques, as well as several extremely difficult maneuvers, such as a back-catch performed while blindfolded. The onlookers loved Su's performance.
Thank you WDC! Thank you America! I love you Taiwan!
Su applied for permission to travel abroad to take part in this competition last year, and received permission from the Ministry of National Defense. The ministry not only gave him permission, but also subsidized his airfare and other costs. Although Su was competing in the Solo Exhibition competition, the ministry allowed him to perform while wearing his naval uniform. Su finished fourth in the competition, and also won the "Constantine Wilson Award" in recognition of his stellar performance. National Defense Minister Yen De-fa congratulated Su on these achievements through a video, and thanked him for helping the Republic of China Navy to shine on the international stage and displaying the Navy's excellent skills.
I speak on behalf of the entire military in recognizing and commending your courage and self confidence during the World Drill Championships, as well as your outstanding performance. The military is proud of you. You are the best.
Su is 28 years old and enlisted in the Air Force when he was 19. He decided to join the Navy Honor Guard after he was discharged because he had a passion for ceremonial drills and becoming a career soldier. In 2015 and 2016, he finished first in the individual military honor guard rifle drill evaluation.
