DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL FARMLAND STRUCTURES TAOYUAN'S PRIORITY|桃園拆農地違建大執法 首波鎖定21件

Large illegal structures made of sheet metal are a common sight in Taiwan's countryside. Taoyuan's Office of Building Administration has discovered an increase in the number of such illegal structures and made demolishing them a priority since this April. The first wave of demolitions focused on 21 structures in particular, many of which were stopped and taken down in the early phases of construction. Taoyuan is also working on a law that will require repeat offenders to pay for the demolitions. ==WORKER== Once it is burned or destroyed, it cannot be simply rebuilt and locked. This massive illegal structure was immediately demolished soon after it was built before it even had a roof. Taoyuan City's Office of Building Administration has made the growing number of illegal structures on farmland a priority for demolition starting in April. Nine of the 21 structures identified as priorities have now been demolished. ==HSU KAI Demolishment Div. In the early stages of illegal construction, such as when foundations are being laid down, we go and demolish the structures. ==EXCAVATOR DRIVER== The demolished materials need to be cleaned up and removed. Excavators remove the demolished sheet metal. This particular illegal structure in Zhongli District was actually re-built after it was removed earlier this year. The Office of Building Administration has now demolished it a second time and has begun legal action against the builder, which could result in a prison sentence of up to one year and a fine of up to NT$300,000. ==HSU KAI Demolishment Div. And we do the same thing, we make it a priority for demolishment and we will enforce the laws. The city government said that it is determined to stop illegal construction, and called on landowners to comply with the law. The Office of Building Administration has used aerial photography to identify 29 illegal structures built over the holiday as the priority for the next wave of demolitions. It is also working on a law that will allow them to charge repeat offenders demolition fees.
