YILAN COUNTY STARTS TO DEMOLISH RESIDENCES ON FARMLAND|礁溪重大違規農舍 縣府強制拆除

To implement a policy of ensuring agricultural land is used for farming only, Yilan County government has started to take frequent action against houses built on farmland. A week ago the residence of an artist Chen Chao-jung at Sanxing was fined NT$120,000. Yesterday an illegal residence on farmland at Jiaosi was forcibly demolished and the local government emphasized that illegal residences at Yuanshan and Wujie would be demolished this month. ==NS== This building near Yilan's Jiaosi has been designated by the local government as illegally built on farmland and is being forcibly demolished. Originally it was slated for demolition on May 15, but the owner applied to demolish it himself and did not do so. Dept.== Land which is under 0.25 hectares, small parcels of agricultural land, can only apply for storage buildings, other construction using the whole farmland as a building base for the construction of houses is a very serious violation and the most important violation. Yilan County Govt. Agriculture Department said that using farmland for agricultural purposes was an established policy which it had always placed importance on, any illegal buildings which used to be corrugated iron buildings or storehouses were legal, and anywhere which used farmland as residential building land was a serious violation. At Yuanshan and Wujie there were also serious violations which would be demolished this month. ==CHEN TEH-HSING Dir., Yilan County Govt. Ag. Dept.== At Yuanshan and Wujie there is a building, it one of those big buildings and is a serious violation so the county government will demolish it. The county government requires the property owner to pay the cost of demolition. In its quest to turn back the tide of residential building which has gone on for years, the county government has stepped up demolition of property, including artist Chen Chao-jung's Sanxing residence. Chen was first fined NT$120,000 and told to demolish his home, then the county government stepped in and did so. The county government said that it would examine one by one case of illegal residences dating from 2015 and deal with them one by one.
