MINECRAFT HELPS KIDS LEARN TO LIVE WITH DIABETES|澳愛心爸改良電腦遊戲 助糖尿病童管控病情

An Australian father is building a computer game for his son and other children with type-1 diabetes to help them better manage their disease. Let's find out how he does that. Like most teenagers, 14-year-old Prahlad Wulf sometimes escapes to the virtual world to build, explore, and fight zombies. The game means more to him. There he learns about his disease and treatment. ==PRAHLAD WULF Diabetic== I got really sick and we went to the hospital. I was really young then so I didn't really understand most of it, it was a little bit scary. When he was eight, he was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes. Prahlad spent two weeks in hospital learning how to manage the condition via daily injections, blood glucose checks and watching what he eats. ==JOSH WULF Prahlad's father, software developer== If anything happens to your children it really hits you, you know. Prahlad's dad, Josh Wulf is a software developer. Six years on, Josh wants to make it easier for other children. He is building a version of the game Minecraft, where players cast spells and battle baddies while managing their blood sugar and insulin. ==JOSH WULF Prahlad's father, software developer== They focus on playing, they focus on the story, they focus on the magic, and they just learn how to manage diabetes in the course of that. ==VOLUNTEER== Oh my god! They can pick up stuff. A group of volunteers help build and test it. Rohan Smith is one of them. As a diabetic patient, he hopes to bring his expertise and ensure the avatars replicate the difficulties and successes of daily life. ==ROHAN SMITH software developer== I'm hoping to make it more realistic and more tangible to the players. The father and son hope the finished game will help people with the disease connect online, as well as help their friends without diabetes better understand the condition. There are some experts looking forward to trialing the game in the hospital. TRANSLATED BY:SASHA CHIU
