Hualien Taroko National Park's Zhuilu Ancient trail will start charging a NT$200 entrance fee per person after March 16. Therefore many people came to try the 90 centimeter-wide cliff-side trail before that date hwile it is still free.
As soon as they heard that the Zhuilu Ancient Trail will soon require an entrance fee, many visitors took advantage of the holiday to visit the Taroko National Park. However, the trail still requires an application for a mountain pass. On weekdays only 96 people a day can enter. On holidays, 156 can enter. Those without passes were blocked at the foot of the mountain. Most support the idea of an entrance fee.

It's really worth paying a fee is it means that this kind of view can be seen, and then there will be management of the site, too.

For visitors we want to come and experience your culture, so of course we don't mind paying NT$200 to see the scenery.
The Zhuilu Ancient Trail is 10.3 meters long and at an altitude of 765 meters. Due to the terrain it is only 90 centimeters wide. Standing on the edge of the cliff, overlooking the Wuxi Creek valley, people often experience vertigo and cold feet. However, this is also what attracts so many visitors and raises costs for trail management. Taroko National Park decided to collect entrance fees from March 16 and this is the first scenic spot in the park to do so.

We use the fees to conserve and maintain the site, so after we went through the legal process for national parks form March 16 we will start to charge fees for the site. Visitors are allowed in until 10 am each day.
The plan is for NT$200 per person, children from 6 to 12 have half price student tickets and those under six are free. Local indigenous residents are free on production of ID. Visitors are reminded that the trail varies greatly from place to place and the public should consider their health. The trail is not suitable for those with heart problems the pregnant or the weak. It is only open from 7 am to 10 am.
