In other news, KMT policy director Tsai Cheng-yuan took to facebook to criticize the reconstruction of a Japanese shrine 2 years ago in one of Pingtung county's local indigenous tribes. He said that the shrine was rebuilt at the exact site of the 1874 Mudan incident where dozens of Paiwan tribesmen were killed by invading Japanese soldiers. But he seems to have been mistaken, because the incident actually took place somewhere else. Our local reporter from Pingtung has more.
The Kuskus Village residents reconstructed a shrine that was once built by Japanese in the colonial period. The village residents use this historical site for promoting education and tourism. However someone threatens pouring paint over the shrine.

The post provoked some people threaten to come and to pour paint or something like that.This used to be a safe village.
The suspects saw a facebook post made by KMT's Policy Committee Executive Director Tsai Cheng-yuan. Tsai criticized DPP the shrine location was the place where Japanese massacred indigenous peoples, and DPP helped reconstructing the shrine. Kuskus Village people were upset over Tsai's comments and asked him to make an apology. The village people explained that the Mudan Incident occurred back in the Ching Dynasty, and the time and location were not the same as Tsai described.

They said they are to reconcile, right? That place was filled with sorrow and they used that place to build their shrine. They have to understand their own history, use their own traditional ancestral house.

That place was Shih Men Pu (Jakachirai), the old battlefield. Our shrine was built in the Japanese colonial period.
The village people emphasized that the shrine was not reconstructed by the DPP, it was rebuilt by overseas Japanese who hosted fundraising for the post-Morakot disaster development. The shrine symbolizes releasing of hatred and friendship. The shrine was completed two years ago when Ma Ying-jeou was president. The ancestral house which Tsai suggested is a ritual place for Pingpu Tribe.

原來恐嚇部落的人,是在國民黨政策會執行長蔡正元的臉書看到這篇貼文,蔡正元批評,神社所在地是牡丹社事件,日本人屠殺原住民的地方,民進黨卻將它重建。高士部落對此非常生氣,也發聲明要蔡正元道歉澄清,強調牡丹社事件發生在清朝,時代、地點都不同。

部落強調,神社不是民進黨重建,而是為了八八災後發展,由日本人跨海集資打造,象徵和日本友人對糾葛歷史的釋懷,建立友好,在2年前的馬政府時期完成,而蔡正元建議興建的公廨,則是平埔族的宗教場所才對。
