Environmental groups to hold protest against air pollution / 高屏空汙惡化 環團發起219反空汙遊行　　　　　　　　　　

The continental cold air mass didn't only bring dramatic temperature changes in Taiwan, it also worsens the air quality in the southern region. Yesterday, a total of 15 monitoring stations showed that the air quality level is unhealthy for sensitive groups, while Kaohsiung's Ciangjhen and Ciaotou issued a red alert which is the most serious level for AQI. Environmental groups vowed to take to the streets of Kaohsiung on Feb 19, to press the government on the issue of the city's continuing air pollution. The continental cold air mass was moving to the south. The density of factories in Pingtung is not as high as Kaohsiung. Then why do Pingtung residents suffer from the pollution? According to an environmental protection group, the southern region residents of Taiwan live with the double amount of cancer-causing particulates PM2.5 for 220 days per year. ==CHEN CHIAO-HUA, 219 KHH Anti-Air Pollution Parade Convener== We analyzed the sane mine collected from China Steel and compared compositions with the samples collected from local residents. 31 heavy metal elements were detected; ten of them were top rated cancer-causing elements. Environmental groups demanded the China Steel Corporation to build an indoor storage and prohibit burning bituminous coals; the groups also asked the government to examine into air pollution total quantity controls. Group members are mobilizing more than ten thousand people for the anti-air pollution demonstration on February 19.
