KAOHSIUNG RESIDENTS WORRY ABOUT CPC PLANT SAFETY|多次跳車居民心驚 環署長到林園廠看空汙管制

EPA minister Lee Ying-yuan yesterday inspected a CPC petro refinery in Linyuan, Kaoshiung, over local concerns that operation at the plant has been marred with high error rates. Local residents also criticized the CPC for being opaque on the actual size of its carbon footprint. Residents in Linyuan believe the two flare towers are one of the sources to air pollution. The CPC Corporation Taiwan stated that 18 improvements are nearly accomplished, a certified third-party institution was called on for verification, but local residents just don't buy the story. ==RESIDENT== The previous number was approximately one thousand tons of carbon emissions. What is the current number of carbon emission? The CPC did not say. Local residents said the CPC Corporation Taiwan has been evasive on the quantity of carbon emissions, several incidents of flares tower short resulted heavy flares and black smokes made them feel unsafe. However the CPC Taiwan Chen Chin-de said that after he took office, he has demanded in case of flares tower short, workers must terminate fuel supplies, decrease the time of carbon emissions. ==CHEN CHIN-DE CPC Taiwan CEO== In just a few days after I took the office, I relieved a highest executive manager from the Dept. of Petroleum Refining because of the flare tower short. ==LEE YING-YUAN EPA Minister== The nitrogen oxides emissions require an add-on urea; it's an improvement to the production process and thus decreases emissions. The cost efficiency to this matter, I hope the CPC Corp., Taiwan does not include this for evaluation. Although the CPC Corp., Taiwan promises no budget limit for improving air quality, but residents worry about the transparency on air monitoring. ==RESIDENT== The indexes from air monitoring do not show on the web pages of the Environmental Protection Bureau, how do residents know about the air quality and whether or not the pollution is down? Kaohsiung Environmental Bureau stated that all the city's air monitoring indexes are available to the public; residents confused with web pages of the Industrial Development Bureau. The bureaus are under discussion to provide air indexes simultaneously on web pages.
