RARE CLOUDED LEOPARD SENT BY GERMANY FOR TAIWAN BREEDING PROGRAM|自德國引進珍稀雲豹 盼在台重現生機

The Formosan clouded leopard has been declared extinct in Taiwan since 2013. Now, according to Taipei Zoo on Dec. 10, a 2 and a half-year-old a female clouded leopard called "Suki" was recently given by a German zoo, In the future, the zoo plans to introduce male clouded leopards in hopes of expanding the clouded leopard population in Taiwan. The cage was open and the leopard cub stuck her head. She walked outside for only a short while and returned to the cage again. This is a 2 1/2-year-old female clouded leopard introduced from Wuppertal Zoo in Germany to Taipei Zoo. ==KAO CHUAN, Taipei Zoo African Animal Area Supervisor== Her physical condition looks fine. We noticed that she did not come to spacious areas because small-sized carnivores enjoy staying under the shelter and in places with a sense of security. The Formosan clouded leopards were declared extinct in 2013. The number of clouded leopards keeps declining due to the loss of natural habitat and poaching. Therefore, Taipei Zoo embarks on collaborating with the international community to launch relevant breeding programs. The zoo's only clouded leopard, Yunhsin, was smuggled from Southeast Asia to Taiwan in 2001. ==CHILD== You see the clouded leopard. I see the clouded leopard. We will work with Thailand or European countries to introduce a new specimen or a new male clouded leopard. The zoo plans to introduce male clouded leopards in the future and establish a satellite breeding center in Taiwan, working with other countries to conserve the clouded leopards.
