The Taoyuan Flight Attendants' Union delisted 22 members because they did not join the CAL flight attendants' strike on June 24. The decision sparked controversy because they were serving the presidential plane on the day of the strike. The Taoyuan Flight Attendants' Union removed 22 members because they did not join the CAL flight attendants' strike on June 24. The punishment sparked controversy because the 10 flight attendants removed from the list were serving on the presidential plane at the time. The union emphasized that for the sake of unity among union members, they had no choice but to do so. ==LIN CHIA-WEI, Sec-Gen., Taoyuan Flight Attendants' Union== Representatives of the union believe that the flight attendants who served on the presidential plane cannot receive special treatment. Every flight attendant should be treated equally. There are about 500 flight attendants who are not members of the union. China Airlines must have been able to find non-union members to serve on the presidential plane. There will be a decreased subsidy for those removed. One flight attendant said that she was more concerned about the union not giving her a chance to voice her opinion beforehand, than actually being kicked out of the union. She also emphasized that serving on the presidential plane is a special mission for national security. The union should not confuse the interests of national security and labor and management disputes. ==De-unionized flight attendant== I believe President Tsai's first visit to the US is concerned with national interest. It is more important than labor and management dispute. National security is above go on strike. The union members believed that the process was illegal because they could only appeal after the decision was made. The Ministry of Labor said the punishment should be in accordance with procedural justice. ==FENG FEI-YAO, Sect. Chief, Labor Relations, Taoyuan City Labor Dept.== Before delisting members at the representative meeting, chances should be given to the delisted to voice their opinions. The Presidential Office said that the Ying Hsiang Project was a diplomatic mission. The crew who served on the presidential plane had no reasons to be treated differently. The office hopes that China Airlines can protect the rights of the flight attendants. TRANSLATED BY:ARIEL HSIEH
