The military coup attempt in Turkey on July 15 shocked the world, but ended abruptly after a little over 10 hours. The conflict killed at least 265 people. The Turkish government arrested over 2,800 military personnel on July 16. The Turkish President condemned the coup as an act of treason and vowed to punish those involved. Some people, however, said that the coup attempt was a scam set up by the Turkish government. A night of mayhem finally came to an end on the morning of 16th. The parliamentary building was bombed three times and severely damaged. The Bosphorus Bridge was taken by the insurgents at one point, but has since been cleared. Ataturk Airport was also occupied by soldiers but is now back in operation. Flights have resumed as normal. Large crowds gathered at Istanbul's Taksim Square, but now peace as returned. The coup leaders are part of the organization "Peace at Home Movement". They said they started the coup because Erdogan has violated the constitution and deviated from the secular traditions.
