Lin Ming-chen Registers for Nantou County By-election
Registration began this week for the legislative by-election for Nantou County's second constituency. Both the KMT and DPP's candidates chose to register on Jan. 11.
Former Nantou County Magistrate Lin Ming-chen registered for the legislative by-election for Nantou County's second constituency on Jan. 11. He was accompanied by KMT Chairperson Eric Chu, Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua, and Legislator Ma Wen-chun. The KMT performed well during the nine-in-one elections, and then won the legislative by-election for Taipei's third constituency. The 71-year-old Lin intends not only to secure more funding for the county, but also to continue the KMT's winning streak.
Lin Ming-chen, KMT Nantou County Legislative By-election Candidate: “During my terms as a legislator, I secured about NT$20.9 billion from the central government. I will do all I can to shift money here from the central government for Magistrate Hsu to build up Nantou County.”
Eric Chu, Chairperson, KMT: “Lin Ming-chen is the person who knows Nantou County the best, the one who has contributed the most. He will be able to immediately get down to business, and he's the best choice.”
DPP candidate Frida Tsai, the former chief executive of the Executive Yuan's Central Taiwan Joint Services Center, also chose to register on Jan. 11. She was accompanied by DPP Legislator Loh Meei-ling and local party members. Tsai lost the Nantou County magisterial election in November, but the DPP decided to nominate her for the by-election, believing she would make the most high-profile and competitive candidate. Tsai said she will continue appealing to grassroots voters and is confident she can stop the DPP's losing streak.
Frida Tsai, DPP Nantou County Legislative By-election Candidate: “I think you should give Frida Tsai the heavy responsibility of fighting for the region as a legislator. Frida Tsai is professional, will work hard, and will earnestly fight. I want to tell everyone that Frida Tsai gives voice to all the hardworking people and will fight for the local economy. Frida Tsai keeps her word.”
Loh Meei-ling, Legislator (DPP): “We're standing together once more to show our determination. We are very confident about our chances. We'll accompany Frida until the end.”
Chen Tsung-chien, an independent candidate and former mayor of Mingjian Township, has also registered. The by-election is scheduled for Mar. 4.
