Enen's Father to Seek State Compensation of NT$1
Enen father's quest to justice continues. He is now seeking state compensation of NT$1 as a last resort to demand the authorities to start a formal investigation regarding his two-year-old son's death.
On June 30, Enen's father wrote on Facebook that the New Taipei City Government is trying to escape responsibility for the death of his son and he will be seeking state compensation of NT$1.
Mr. Lin, Enen's Father: “I have no other recourse. The only thing I can do now is to apply for state compensation, so that the judicial system can help me find out the truth of what happened. You are all helping with the coverup. You aren't willing to answer my questions. I have no other choice. There's nothing I can do.”
Mr. Lin says he is not going after hardworking low-level civil servants. Instead, he says, he just wants the government to admit it was at fault and for government officials to live up to their responsibilities. According to an opinion poll published on June 27, 64 percent of New Taipei City residents believe there was negligence in the case. One pan-green city councilor says the city government's suppression of the truth is rubbing people the wrong way.
Chang Chih-hao, New Taipei City Councilor (DPP): “In the two months since what happened, we have not seen Mayor Hou give the family a solemn apology. The heads of the health and fire departments have not lived up to their responsibilities either by resigning or submitting to an investigation.”
Hou Yu-ih, New Taipei City Mayor: “I take the loss of every life very seriously. This is my responsibility. I will continue to look at what happened to be able to do a better job of protecting the people.”
New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih says he understands what the family is going through and he hopes the public outreach to the family can continue. He also thanked everyone for their thoughtful recommendations and advice and said he humbly accepts all criticism.
