Chang An-lo Subpoenaed for Comments to Chinese Media

Chinese Unification Promotion Party President Chang An-lo has been subpoenaed for questioning for his statement of recruiting "red troops" in Taiwan. Chang said he doesn't care about the National Security Act while he could face a fine of up to NT$100 million if he is found in violation.

Chinese Unification Promotion Party President Chang An-lo was escorted by a large group of supporters as he arrived at the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. There were also about 80 police officers present to maintain public order. Chang was subpoenaed for questioning on March 30 over comments he made to the Chinese media, which prosecutors believe violated the National Security Act. He told the media at the scene that he was innocent.

I will absolutely not plead guilty. I don't care about this National Security Act, it has nothing to do with me. I'm going to raise this issue.

During his interview with an official Chinese media outlet, Chang said he will form "red troops," promote peaceful reunification, and convert young people in southern Taiwan from "green" to "red." These statements caught the attention of the Mainland Affairs Council and legislators. The Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, which investigates first instance cases of sedition, treason, and interference with relations with other states, opened parallel investigations after receiving complaints.

Any troop with Chinese people would be considered a "red troop." What I mean by "red troop" is that I will recruit the Chinese people here. If there are Chinese people in Taiwan, then there will be cross-strait peace. If there are no Chinese people in Taiwan, then there will be cross-strait war.

The National Security Act stipulates that people are prohibited from directing or developing organization for official use of a foreign country or Mainland China. Chang said he doesn't care about the act, but he will be sentenced to at least seven years and fined NT$50 million to NT$100 million if he is found in violation.
