Long Weekend Ends with Wuling Covered in Trash|中秋人潮過後武嶺到處垃圾.告示站牌被撞斷

Multitudes of people thronged to popular tourist attractions during the four-day Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend. One example was the Wuling area in Nantou County. Some of these tourists displayed extremely uncivil behavior, as the parking lot was filled with trash and signs were damaged by the end of the holiday.

Used tissues, food packaging, and newspapers litter the ground inside and outside Wuling's parking lot. There are also cigarette butts everywhere. On the road near an observation deck, there are empty boxes that held firecrackers that were illegally set off. They were also discarded at will. Those tourists who came to this scenic area to appreciate nature were disheartened.

The trash affects the view of the mountain. Moreover, what will foreigners think about Taiwan if they see this?

This is a famous scenic spot, and many foreigners come here. It's not good that the entire area is covered with trash. People should take the trash with them when they leave, it's not that difficult to do.

Multitudes of tourists flocked to this scenic spot during the Mid-Autumn Festival long weekend. Signs warning about falling rocks and bus information boards were also damaged by visitors. The Taroko National Park Headquarters says it sent personnel on regular patrols during every day of the long weekend, and anyone found to be littering was fined a minimum of NT$1,500. Those who damage or destroy highway facilities can be fined NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 under Article 72 of the Highway Act.

People are not allowed to litter. The standard fine is NT$1,500 for the first offense, and people can be fined continuously. The fine for the second offense is NT$3,000.

On Sept. 27, rescue workers and welfare organizations from all over Taiwan carried out a cleanup operation around the parking lot, at times collecting trash while suspended by ropes. They were able to remove a dozen or so bags' worth of garbage. Just a week later, the area was covered in trash again. The Taroko National Park Headquarters reminds visitors that they should leave no trace of their visit.

衛生紙、零食包裝、報紙就散落在武嶺停車場及路邊，還有民眾亂丟的菸蒂。甚至在觀景台附近的馬路邊，違法施放煙火後的空盒子，就隨地亂丟。讓上山來親近大自然的遊客，覺得很掃興。

武嶺遊客表示：「其實這樣子，放眼望過去，垃圾不只影響上山時的觀看程度。然後如果說，像外國人來看，唉唷，台灣怎麼這樣子。」

武嶺遊客表示：「觀光景點，然後就很有名，外國人一定都會來嘛。滿地垃圾，不太好嘛。就是順手帶垃圾下山，應該沒有那麼難啦！」

連假湧入車潮及人潮，製造了武嶺的垃圾，也撞壞了公路旁的落石警告標示及公車站牌。太魯閣國家公園管理處表示，連假四天，都有派同仁定期巡邏，一旦抓到民眾亂丟垃圾，至少開罰一千五百元。如果損毀公路設施，依據公路法第72條，破壞者還將面臨三萬元以上十五萬元以下罰鍰。

太魯閣國家公園管理處副處長陳乾隆表示：「就是不准亂丟垃圾啊！裁罰標準，第一次一千五吧，然後可以連續處罰，第二次就要三千。」

而在上個月27號，有來自台灣各地的救難隊及公益團體，從武嶺停車場周邊，冒險用繩索垂降，進行邊坡垃圾撿拾，清出數十袋的垃圾。一個連假，又讓武嶺滿地垃圾，太管處也只能呼籲再呼籲，無痕山林，從你我做起。
