Asia Enjoys Partial Solar Eclipse|

A partial solar eclipse occurred on Dec. 26, which was visible in almost all of Asia, including Taiwan. The moon covered almost 40 percent of the diameter of the sun, and the coverage was more extensive in areas to the south. One Kaohsiung elementary school set up an astronomical telescope and invited an astronomer to provide commentary as the entire school enjoyed the phenomenon together.

I just saw the moon eat up the sun!

We used binoculars and projected the image, because we can't look using the naked eye. That's very dangerous.

The projected image showed the sun missing a part. The students were very excited to be part of the eclipse. Over in Pingtung County, the government set up the "Orion Conservatory" to allow people in other counties and countries to observe the eclipse. Solar eclipses are divided into total eclipses, partial eclipses, and annular eclipses. Statistics show that there are on average two eclipses a year. Those who missed this eclipse will get the chance to see an annular eclipse in June 2020.
