Protests Continue in HK Despite Retraction of Extradition Bill|林鄭昨撤逃犯條例 民團批"假讓步 真鬥爭"

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced that the government has retracted the proposed extradition bill. However, some so-called pro-democratic legislators and NGOs don't consider this a progress, and they said Lam is simply getting ready to put a different law in place. Meanwhile, Joshua Wong, the Secretary-General of Demosisto, said during his visit to Taiwan that he wants all five demands to be met and that the people in Hong Kong will continue to defend their freedom.


On the evening of September 4, a large number of public surrounded the Mongkok Police Station to protest the police' earlier arrest of protestors who jammed the train cars in the Prince Edwards subway station. On the morning of September 5, riot police arrived on site and dispersed the protestors. The City's Chief Executive Carrie Lam had already retracted the extradition bill, however the anti-extradition bill protest continues. Some believe Lam's retraction was too late and cannot make up for the damage caused by the confrontations in the past three months and the breach of trust felt by some residents.

The protestors will not step back as long as the five demands are not met. The people in Hong Kong will insist on walking the last mile in our protest.

Some legislators in the pro-democracy camp believes Lam's announcement is just a front for further dividing the public in Hong Kong and resort to the Emergency Regulations Ordinance. On the other hand, members of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong said that, though Lam's announcement came late, the Hong Kong government does need to study the content of the Emergency Regulations Ordinance if the violent protests and attacks on government buildings continue.

If the protests continue, I think the administrative officials and the government all need to study deeply the Emergency Regulations Ordinance and the Public Order Ordinance.

The retraction of the bill has led to different interpretations. Li Ka-shing, Hong Kong's wealthiest businessman, recently published an ad on a local newspaper calling on the public to stop the violence. Li's son Li Tzar-kai, published a similar ad on September 5, calling on a stop on violent confrontation and the resume of rational discussions. Joshua Wong, Secretary-General of Hong Kong's Demosisto, said that the people in Hong Kong will defend their freedom and that all five demands must be met by the government.

(Chief Executive) Carrie Lam is not willing to hold a democratic election. She's also not willing to pull back the independent investigative committee and let the Chief Justice to conduct his own investigation.

Wong said that protests and rallies will continue, and that there will be a worldwide movement on September 27 and 28. The Civil Human Rights Front in Hong Kong is also planning to mobilize a march on September 15. The waves of protests in Hong Kong see no sign of receding.



4號晚間，大批民眾包圍旺角警署，抗議港警8月31號晚間，在港鐵太子站追捕示威者，還攻擊市民，5號凌晨，大批防暴警察則從警署衝出來，強勢清場。儘管香港特首林鄭月娥已經宣佈撤回「逃犯條例」修例，不過，反送中抗爭仍持續，香港民間記者會認為，林鄭太晚回應社會撤回修例的訴求，根本無法彌捕過去近3個月來，衍伸的衝突，以及港人對港府的信心崩潰。

民間記者會發言人 羅先生表示：「五大訴求，一日不實現，抗爭者絕對不會接受，香港人沒有收貨的本錢，我已經到達抗爭最關鍵的一哩路，我們不可以退縮。」

民主派議員則質疑，林鄭的決定是「假讓步、真鬥爭」，試圖進一步分化群眾，再藉機為動用「緊急法」來舖路。不過，民建聯雖然也認為，林鄭的回應來得太遲，但強調，如果暴力示威衝擊持續，港府有需要研究緊急法。

民建聯主席 李慧琼表示：「如果持續不能處理，我認為緊急法，甚至早先講的公安條例，也都是行政長官以至政府，都是需要深入研究。」

特首要撤回修例，在香港各界引發不同解讀，而先前香港首富李嘉誠才登廣告，呼籲停止暴力，他的兒子李澤楷在5號，也登廣告反對暴力行為，恢復理性討論，至於，人在台灣訪問的香港眾志秘書長黃之鋒則重申，五大訴求缺一不可，香港人要捍衛自由。

香港眾志秘書長 黃之鋒表示：「現在林鄭月娥，不但是不願意，去讓香港人有民主選舉的機會，還不願意撤了獨立的調查的委員會，去讓大法官去查大搜捕。」

黃之鋒強調，抗議、示威會持續下去，在9/27、9/28，更會有全球大串聯，而香港民陣也計劃，9/15申請大遊行，延燒近三個月的反送中抗議，至今仍不見平息跡象。
