Tsai Calls on Lai to Withdraw from DPP Pres. Primary|蔡英文喊話賴清德 "合作就會不一樣"

The battle between President Tsai Ing-wen and former Premier William Lai in the Democratic Progressive Party presidential primaries has turned white-hot. Tsai took part in an exclusive radio interview and declared herself the president in 2020. She also had words for Lai, calling on him to give up and saying things would be different, if he would agree to cooperate.


The president in 2020 of course has to be like me, or be me period.

During a radio interview on the 19th, President Tsai Ing-wen lauded herself, saying she possesses all the necessary qualities for president and she is determined to be reelected. Tsai is facing off against her former premier William Lai in the Democratic Progressive Party's presidential primaries. After acknowledging that she is lagging behind Lai in public opinion polls, Tsai said things could be different if he would work with her instead of against her.

We have a responsibility to our supporters. We should also join forces and work together and not cause too much anxiety for our supporters.

Tsai also said she hoped for a solution through coordination. Internally, the pan-green camp is describing the situation as a battle between a daughter-in-law and favorite grandson. Tsai called for unity in the ruling party against opposition forces, saying a family needs harmony to thrive and people should stop pouring salt on open wounds. Some took this to mean Tsai sees herself between a rock and a hard place. In response, Lai said he would not withdraw from the race.

We are taking part in the party primary and not withdrawing from the party to run, so unity is not an issue. As long as the primary is a gentlemen's race, it will actually end up helping unity in the end.

Lai also said he hopes the public can see and support the DPP's ideals. Asked about Hon Hai Chair Terry Gou's announcement that he will run for president, Lai said he respects Gou's decision and he hopes he can win the DPP's primary and against the Kuomitang candidate, whoever it turns out to be, and that it will be a gentlemen's race.



總統 蔡英文表示：「2020的總統，當然要像我一樣，或者就是我啦！」

霸氣宣示自己具備當總統的特質，總統蔡英文接受廣播專訪，也宣示拚連任決心，對於民進黨總統初選，蔡賴之爭還無解，蔡英文也坦言確實現在民調處於落後狀態，因此藉機向對手賴清德喊話，也許合作就會不一樣，希望共同努力。

總統 蔡英文表示：「我們對我們的支持者，都有一份責任，我們也應該共同來努力讓這一局，不要讓我們的支持者太焦慮。」

蔡英文重申期盼協調態度，希望能夠適當解決，至於綠營內部用媳婦和金孫形容她與賴清德，她則表示家和萬事興，執政時面對在野黨攻擊，大家應該團結，不要在傷口上灑鹽，似乎也是暗指自己腹背受敵，對此行政院長賴清德，則還是表明初選到底的決心。

前行院長 賴清德表示：「因為我們進行的是初選啦！並不是要脫黨競選，所以團結這本來就沒有問題，只要進行一場君子之爭的初選，我相信對後續的團結應該是很有幫忙的。」

賴清德強調希望大家看到民進黨的理念，可以支持，對於有意參選總統的鴻海董事長郭台銘，賴清德則表示尊重，更表示等國民黨提名出來，希望自己能勝出，跟對方來個君子之爭。
