Taiwan High Speed Rail has launched a new service which allows users to book their tickets by simply saying one sentence on Facebook Messenger. Let's take a look.
This is not Apple's Siri virtual assistant. Instead, it is Taiwan High Speed Rail's interactive voice response ticket booking system. It allows people to use voice commands to book tickets through Facebook Messenger, and is advertised as requiring just "one sentence" to complete the purchase.
Taiwan High Speed Rail, I want to book a seat in the first carriage.
Is it really that simple to book tickets? When the system was tested, it was discovered that if the provided information is not clear enough, something like this could happen.
My destination is Taichung. Taichung Station. Ha, ha, ha, it still doesn't work. It doesn't understand what I'm saying, so it's not convenient. I got really upset with it and wanted to throw my phone.
The acceptance rate among older generations is not high. Meanwhile, younger generations are finding it very easy to use voice commands to book tickets through Facebook Messenger. Some say it's more convenient than buying tickets in person or online.
It even confirms the time with you, so I think the accuracy rate is high. It's more convenient than going online (to Taiwan High Speed Rail's website).
Taiwan High Speed Rail says the major premise behind "one sentence" booking is that the one sentence must contain all the required information, including the time, departure and arrival stations, carriage number, and number of tickets.
I want to book one regular ticket for 7 a.m. tomorrow from Taipei to Taichung in a standard carriage. When you say it like this, the system will come back with the trains that meet the conditions that were inputted.
Even if it's not possible to book a ticket with just one sentence, the dialogue box will still offer different options and confirm information until the booking is complete. Taiwan High Speed Rail says at present, only express trains can be booked through Facebook Messenger. Non-reserved seats still have to be booked in person. Moreover, the system is currently available only in Chinese. Other languages are not supported.
