Ex-TSMC CEO Morris Chang to Represent Taiwan at APEC|台積電創辦人張忠謀 出任APEC領袖代表

This year's APEC summit is scheduled to take place in Papua New Guinea this November. President Tsai Ing-wen announced that Morris Chang, founder and ex-CEO of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company or TSMC, will represent Taiwan in the summit. This will be the second time that Chang represents Taiwan at the APEC.
President Tsai Ing-wen announced that Morris Chang, founder and ex-CEO of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), will represent Taiwan in the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting Summit. Tsai stressed that Chang is the best candidate for the job. This is also the second time that Chang has represented Taiwan at the APEC; his first attendance was in 2006.
Chang is a valid representative of Taiwan, of the people from the public and private sector. He's the best choice to represent Taiwan, and he will attend with the support of people from all walks of life.
Tsai Ing-wen said that the themes of this year's APEC Summit involve "Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities and Embracing the Digital Future". She said that Morris Chang has made outstanding contributions both on the international stage and to Taiwan's high-tech industry. She said the government hopes to take advantage of his experience to promote Taiwan's digital industry and to exchange ideas with leaders from other countries.
This is a mission from the president. I will exchange ideas with leaders from other nations on how to faces various challenges as a smaller economy.
Tsai Ing-wen also expressed gratitude to James Soong, chair of the People First Party and representative of Taiwan in two previous APEC Summits. Taiwan's delegation for the summit will also include Minister without Portfolio John Deng, Economics Minister Shen Jong-Chin, National Development Council Minister Chen Mei-Ling, National Security Council Deputy Secretary-General Tsai Ming-yen, as well as two consultants from TSMC.
