When I got to the (hospital), there was no one there. Who? Who was there? It's been raining for several days. Why did this happen?
It's been raining for several days. Where are the safety precautions? (You can't even see) the most basic ones. Isn't this ridiculous? Take a look for yourself. Where are the safety precautions? Isn't this ridiculous?
The minister of labor also went to the airport to show her concern and hand out consolation payments. Investigators say the accident was likely the result of inaccurately placed retaining walls. The Ministry of Labor has already fined the construction company the maximum fine of NT$300,000 and called on the company to adhere to construction safety regulations.
Based on the preliminary investigation, we believe the collapse occurred due to inadequate temporary support. Based on our understanding, the reason for this is that the Taoyuan MRT passes right below the pipeline.
We very much regret that an occupational accident like this happened. We are very heartbroken. As soon as it happened, we asked our staff to do what they could to help the families.
Apart from determining the cause of the accident and identifying the persons responsible, the ministry and Taoyuan City Department of Labor will help the families of the victims apply for death compensation.
