President Tsai Ing-wen welcomes visiting Haitian President Jovenel Moïse with a 21-gun salute. Tsai and Moïse signed a joint communiqué after a bilateral talk. Moïse said during his speech that he hopes Taiwan and Haiti will continue to move forward in their mutually beneficial relationship. He said he will explore other opportunities to collaborate with Taiwan to boost Haiti's economy, advance the country's agriculture, build basic infrastructure and improve the employment rate.

The basic infrastructure include the construction of roads, energy infrastructure, ports and airports.

We are currently in discussion on the projects that President Moïse had brought up, including the construction of a power grid and assistance in agriculture.

President Tsai Ing-wen said Taiwan will help with the construction of a power grid in Haiti. Haiti's local media has reported that Taiwan would provide a loan of US$ 1.5 billion dollars to help with the country's power grid construction. When asked about the validity of the report, foreign ministry spokesperson said that further verification is needed before he can comment. The foreign ministry also said that they will assist President Moïse in promoting Haiti's business opportunities to Taiwan's entrepreneurs.

Taiwan and Haiti share similarities, both nations have a strong tourism industry, as well as coffee, cocoa and tropical agriculture. So, Taiwan has the technical know-how and the traditional garment processing.

After the Dominican Republic and Burkina Faso broke off ties with Taiwan in the past month, there have been questions about ties with Haiti. Taiwan is assisting Haiti with the construction of its infrastructure and promoting investment from local companies to solidify diplomatic ties.
