FOUR ACCUSED OF TRANSASIA INSIDER TRADING|興航解散過程傳內線交易 檢起訴4人

Accusations of insider trading at TransAsia began soon after the airline closed down its operations with no warning last year. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office said that four people, including Ezfly chairman Chou Yu-wei as well as Transasia chairman Lin Ming-sheng's aunt, had known of the abnormal circumstances at TranAsia and sold off their shares to illegally avoid losses. They have now been indicted for violations to the Securities and Exchange Act. Though due to lack of evidence, neither Lin Ming-sheng or former Civil Aeronautics Administration Director-General Chang Kuo-cheng, were indicted. On Nov. 20 last year, as rumors began circulating that TransAsia Air was about to close, the airline's chairman Lin Ming-sheng immediately issued a statement denying the rumors. Former Civil Aeronautics Administration Director-General Chang Kuo-cheng also held press conferences on two consecutive days on possible plans to take over the airline. As these events greatly affected TransAsia's stock prices, both Lin and Chang were accused of insider trading and were questioned by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. The prosecutors have now announced that neither will be indicted, citing lack of evidence. ==CHANG KUO-CHENG Fmr. Dir-Gen. CAA == My own feeling is that I never touched any of this. And the truth is I didn't do it. I really didn't do it. Chang and Lin have avoided prosecution, but the prosecutors have indicted others for insider trading. ==ARCHIVE VIDEO== Can you explain why you looked at the stocks? Who told you? Lin Min-sheng's aunt Lin Cheng Shan-shan was found to have sold TransAsia stocks with the knowledge that the company was in trouble, before any of the relevant information was publicly known. In addition, Chou Yu-wei and Liu Hsin-ping, the chairmen of two travel agencies partnered with TransAsia, also sold off their TransAsia stocks once they discovered ahead of the market that the company will cease all operations. The prosecutors said they all violated the Securities and Exchange Act. ==CHANG CHIEH-CHIN spokesperson, Taipei Dist. Prosecutors Office== The defendant surnamed Lin, and three others, gained knowledge of TransAsia's operations that would greatly impact its stock prices, and prior to the knowledge being made public, sold their TransAsia stocks to avoid losses. These all constitute insider trading. After Chou's indictment, his company EzFly issued a statement saying that he had sold his stocks simply to protect the interests of EzFly's shareholders. TransAsia's chairman Lin Ming-sheng was also accused of having made off with the company's assets, but the prosecutors have also closed their investigation into this matter saying that there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
