TAIPOWER PREPARES FOR SUMMER POWER DRAIN|助夏季供電 核一2號機降載運轉.延後歲修

Summer is fast approaching, and Taiwan's power utility company, Taipower, is taking measures to make sure that the nation is properly powered throughout the hottest months of the year. As high temperatures hit Taiwan, power use has also soared. On April 29, Taipower kicked off its energy-saving measures that it estimated would still generate 450,000 KW of power in the summer. ==LIN TE-FU, Taipower spokesperson== We'll cut 25% to extend its period of use. The original plan was to stop its operation on June 1. By taking this measure, we can extend its use to June 10. According to Taipower, the possible high temperature and the demand for more power in June have shelved the annual maintenance plan for Jinshan Nuclear Power Plant's second reactor until that of thermal power generating units is done. 3.5 new units will also be deployed to increase the operating reserve by 8.6%. However, a new unit in Tongxiao Power Plant may not start operation as scheduled. ==LIN TE-FU Taipower spokesperson== Regarding the Tonxiao Power Plant, we can only put it into use when the sea conditions are right. Taipower currently has 228 power generating units in total. The ones undergoing annual maintenance will be back in operation by May 20. It is estimated that Taipower's net power supplied at peak times in the first half of May will fall between 3,336 and 3,414 MW. With the return of units under maintenance and addition of a new CHP power unit, the number will increase to 3,655 MW after mid-June.
