KAOHSIUNG CITY SETS UP FIRST SLOPE SLIDING ALERT SYSTEM |燕巢淺層崩塌風險區 高市首建預警機制

Last September, a family of three was buried alive after a landslide caused their home to collapse in Kaohsiung's Yanchao District. The Kaohsiung City Government later found out that since this is not a landslide hazard area, there isn't any alert or systems for disaster prevention. Now the city government is conducting research in similar areas to develop a slope sliding warning and alert system to prevent similar accidents from happening. In September last year, one residence in Kaohsiung's Yanchao District suffered from slope collapsing, three people were buried alive. According to the city government's investigation, that place was not potential mudslide hazard area, but a landslide caused by heavy precipitation. Kaohsiung City Gov.== The Central Geological Survey had announced geologically sensitive area, the data included actual residential buildings. We use the data to overlay with a municipal map, and we compiled them into a system including residential building numbers and their telephone numbers. To avoid the similar tragedy from happening again, Kaohsiung City Government is integrating central government's mudslide pre-warning system with slope landslide hazard alert system. There are 65 boroughs in Kaohsiung, about 850 households are living in the potential slope collapsing area. City officials are sponsoring illustration meetings in many districts and inform residents about disaster prevention.
