TransAsia airways planes rust, Jeopardising fund recovery /

The controversy between management and employees in TransAsia Airways continues. The airplanes, which were mortgaged by creditor banks, are now showing signs of corrosion. The Civil Aeronautics Administration said the 11 planes must be sealed on site. Otherwise, if their condition continues to worsen, it'll be very difficult to sell those planes in the future. More than a month after the dissolution of TransAsia airways, 11 of its planes are still parked at the Taipei Songshan Airport and the Taoyuan International Airport. As creditors and banks worry about not getting their full money back in the liquidation process, their concern is aggravated by reports that after 50 days of disuse, the company's planes are beginning to show signs of corrosion. ==LIN JIUNN-LIANG Division Director, CAA Flight Standards == The corrosion will only worsen, but the potential buyers will want to check the planes. Therefore, the maintenance work will increase a great deal, and the CAA will mothball the planes in order to help TransAsia sell them. The CAA said that it would provide assistance to help mothball the aircraft to prevent further corrosion. After TransAsia's dissolution, routine maintenance of the company's planes has been disrupted as well. Since corrosion will only become worse if not dealt with, the CAA suggested that a anti-oxidation coating be applied to the aircraft to mothball the planes on site. ==MR. CHEN Aircraft Structural Engineer == In Taiwan, high levels of humidity and salt are found in the air. Meanwhile, large industrialized cities often see higher levels of sulfide, too. Together they create an corrosion-prone environment. That's why we usually prefer mothballing airplanes in the desert. Of all the planes that TransAsia operated, 16 are rentals, and most of them have been returned. As for these 11 aircraft in question, which are TransAsia owned assets, creditors are looking to sell them by February. Yet according to experts, it is very difficult to sell planes that have been mothballed unless discounts of more than 50% are given, which will certainly add uncertainties to the final steps of the airline's dissolution. TRANSLATED BY:BRYANT CHANG
