MARTIAN SHOW HOME DEMONSTRATES LIFE ON MARS|移民火星不是夢! 倫敦打造適居"火星的家"

During a recent speech in London, British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking claimed that humanity has 1000 years to locate and colonize new planets, or we will likely go extinct. In early November, a show home with features to survive life on Mars went on display in London, offering visitors a glimpse of what life could be like on the red planet if it ever happens. Open at the Royal Observatory Greenwich from November 10th to 16th, the habitat is based on extensive consultation with Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomers and Stephen Petranek, author of "How We'll Live on Mars". The Martian show home was built using materials as close to possible as those found on the red planet. Set amongst a mock-up of Mars' red soil at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the dome-like construction has room for a bed, desk with a computer, space to grow plants as well as exercise. ==STEPHEN PETRANEK, Author of "How We'll Live on Mars"== There are plants up here. It will be very important to grow a certain amount of your own food. It will be a small percentage, probably only about 20% of what you eat but it will have tremendous psychological value. And there's some psychological, because people like to have crunch, in their mouths - so, you'll grow lettuce and salad and kind of things. Constructed over several months, the show home also contained recycled spacecraft parts, including a double air-locked entrance, all designed to protect the early settlers from Mars' unforgiving atmosphere and freezing temperatures. ==STEPHEN PETRANEK, Author of "How We'll Live on Mars"== This is a typical Mars home if you want to call it that but it's really a survival centre. It will make oxygen for people to breathe and it will supply its own water by sucking in the martian atmosphere which is 100% humid most nights and pull out water of a very simple dehumidifier mechanism. So, you'll have 3D printer which will make almost everything that you need. A transparent side section of the show home gave visitors a slice of Mars life inside, as well as a depiction of an underground area, containing sleeping quarters, food supplies, scientific equipment and linking tunnels to other habitats. A small exhibition around the home will bring to life visions of the colony and facts about our future on Mars and the very real prospect of becoming a multi-planetary species. Petranek also claimed that there will be jobs on Mars galore, and it is very necessary for people to create an economy on Mars. TRANSLATED BY:JESSICA OY
