EXPIRED SEAFOOD SOLD TO HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS|進口商賣過期海鮮 流入部分五星飯店

Food critic and comic illustrator Louis Liang appears to be involved in a food fraud. Prosecutors investigated seafood import company, Hsiang Er Sheng suspected of selling fish, including salmon and other seafood, two years after the expiration date to restaurants and hotels by changing the date on labels. Yesterday, Liang, who was once the company's food development consultant, and Chair of the downstream supply and manufacturing company, was interviewed by prosecutors. He was then released on bail of NT$80,000, suspected of forging documents. Taipei City Government Department of Health and inspectors received reports that the Hsiang Er Sheng seafood company sold products which were two years past the expire date or near the expire date including, tins of abalone frozen salmon and ice fish. They did this by changing the dates on the products and sold these to restaurants and hotels throughout Taipei, including the Grand Hyatt. ==WANG MING-LI Taipei City Govt. DOH Food and Drug Div.== Er Sheng Company proactively contacted the Grand Hyatt Taipei, who bought products from it. The amount is as yet unclear. On the original order form it said that this was sample food. The DOH said that on Thursday evening it went with investigators to the company, but the person in charge, surnamed Chen, did not cooperate with investigators and obstructed the investigation. He was not able to clarify the flow of the suspect food products. In the course of the investigation it was found that Louis Liang, a well-known food personality had been responsible for market development at the company and Chair of the downstream supply and manufacturing company. They suspected he was aware of the product date changes. On Nov.11 he denied this. ==LOUIS LIANG food celebrity== I've been in the food and beverage business for nearly 30 years and I have never done anything underhand, never introduced food which isn't delicious, let alone fraudulent. To clarify the case, the Department of Health has asked the company to stop dispatching products, while appealing to stores and consumers, that if they have tins from this company it is best to take them down from the shelves, to avoid eating expired food. The company manager, surnamed Chen, was interviewed overnight by prosecutors and released on bail of NT$100,000 in the morning.
