STRONGEST EVER OCTOBER TYPHOON HITS GUANGDONG|"海馬"登陸廣東 史上10月襲粵最強颱風

After it caused many deaths in the Philippines, On Oct. 21 ,Typhoon Haima made landfall in China's Guangdong Province. It was the strongest October typhoon yet recorded. The Hong Kong Obervatory posted a level eight warning. Work and school were suspended that day in Hong Kong as was the stock market. Air, sea and land traffic were all severely disrupted by the typhoon. On Oct 21 at around 1 pm, Typhoon Haima made landfall in Guangdong Province's Shanwei at Haifeng. The wind speed at the center was level 14. It was the strongest October typhoon ever recorded. The National Meteorological Center of China issued typhoon and torrential rain warnings for the southeast coast of China. ==FORECASTER National Meteorological Center of China== Guangdong, Fujian, Jianxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, etc. will all experience torrential rain and heavy torrential rain. Typhoon Haima moved fast and on Oct 22 as it moved into Jiangxi Province it weakened to a tropical storm. However, on Oct 21 as it swept across 100 kilometers in Guangdong, the Hong Kong Observatory post a level eight warning. Hong Kong's coast and city were deserted as work, classes and even the stock market were suspended, while strong winds and torrential rain hit. Around 200 flights were cancelled or delayed at Hong Kong International Airport and ferries and buses were also suspended. The Hong Kong metro system cancelled some services and most shops closed, presenting a most unusual view of Hong Kong streets. ==VISITOR Hong Kong== During the second world war there were no cars and no people, no noise, it was like this, it's an eerie atmosphere. Before Typhoon Haima moved north to China it wrought havoc in the Philippines' Cagayan Province, destroying buildings, blowing down trees, and causing landslides and rivers to overflow their banks. It killed 12 people and left huge agricultural and economic losses. Electricity and the internet were cut off so the exact extent of the disaster is not yet known. Typhoon Haima's power was similar to that of Typhoon Haiyan which killed 6,000 people in 2013.
