NEWLY-ELECTED HK LAWMAKER REPORTS GETTING DEATH THREAT|港選舉獲最高票 朱凱迪報警稱受"死亡威脅"

In the latest Hong Kong Legislative Council election, independent local activist Eddie Chu won his seat with the highest number of votes. Chu filed a report to the police on Sep. 8th, because he received violent threats. He requested the police to launch an investigation and provide protection. The Hong Kong Legislative Council announced election results on Sep. 5th. The "king of votes" Eddie Chu ran as an independent and won a landslide victory. However, he has also been targeted due to his political views. Feeling an imminent threat to his life, as well as his family, Chu filed a report to the police, accompanied by his lawyer. ==CHU HOI DICK, Hong Kong Legislative Councilor-elect== I'm now facing violent threats that have jeopardized the safety of myself and my family. The situation is serious. The threats got worse after I was elected. Eddie Chu did not give details of the threats. However, he and his family have been unable to return home since election day due to safety concerns. He also said the fact that he has received death threats because of his political views shows the collapse of the rule of law in Hong Kong. He has written to Hong Kong chief executive C.Y. Leung and police officials to request a thorough investigation into the incidents he reported. Chu is a 38 year-old, a long-time social activist who has fought for farmers living in the New Territories and against pro-Beijing councilors who support real-estate developers. He has received death threats and was followed by an unknown vehicle on election day. He was moved to tears by the news of his victory, feeling mixed emotions of both joy and worry. Six pro-autonomy, localist candidates were elected in this Hong Kong legislative election, forming the third force in the Legislative Council. They have stood up against pressures coming from Beijing. Three of them even called for Hong Kong independence, which is highly unsettling to Beijing.
