President Tsai Ing-Wen attended the Youth Policy Forum National Congress on Sep. 4th. Referring to the civil servant demonstration on Sep. 3rd, Tsai stressed that she will continue the pension reform effort, which will be based on scientific assessment and a democratic reform process, and ensure the minimum living standard for retirees and the performance of fund management. She also said she will endure the pressure from all sides.
==TSAI ING-WEN, R.O.C. President==
We will continue the reform effort to alleviate the burden of the younger generation. When we all try to do more for others, the society will be stronger as a whole. As the president, I will take all the pressure that comes with the reform process.
President Tsai also said rational communication is more important than street protests.
==TSAI ING-WEN, R.O.C. President==
If you try to tell the government something but they don't hear you the first time, you can try again and speak louder. If that doesn't work, speak louder again, be more vocal so that they will hear you. But I also think that street protests should not be a common occurrence. Certainly, people have the right to protest, but more importantly, we need to sit down and talk rationally afterwards.
==LIN CHUAN, Premier==
We will listen to people's opinions, but we also hope the issues can be resolved at the meeting table. We need to resolve this issue because it's crucial for our development.
Lin Chuan also attended the forum. When asked about the civil servant demonstration he said street protests are not the only way of communication. He hoped that discussions and debates regarding pension reform can be done in the pension reform committee meetings.
