Public servants, including the military, government, and teaching personnel will be staging a demonstration on 9/3 to protest the government's pension reform plan. Several groups taking part in the protest claim that the government has been trying to suppress them, but they are determined to defend their dignity. At the same time other teachers' organizations have expressed support for pension reform. They say the unjust and unfair pension system has to be updated.
Retired public servants organizations will take to the streets on Sep. 3rd to protest against the government's pension reform plan and the stigmatization of public sector retirees. Military and teacher organizations said the government has been trying to smear and suppress them.

The National Federation of Teachers Unions published pamphlets that criticized and smeared our organization. We want to make an official complaint about that now.
They also stressed their determination to defend their dignity. On the other hand, some teachers expressed their support for the pension reform. They said they receive a pension that is higher than their salary when they were still teaching, and they felt ashamed for that.
I have been receiving pension payout for over ten years. This is a heavy financial burden for the country. Taiwan may become bankrupt if this problem continues because more people will be eligible for pension. We as teachers should be responsible for generational justice.
Pension reform committee member Feng Guang-Yuan said some public servants in the military, government, and education sectors misconstrued the pension reform plan. Their opposition to reform has jeopardized the future of Taiwan's next generation.

Advocate groups supporting pension reform reiterated that the pension system is unsustainable and has to be changed. In response, pension reform protest groups said they are not opposed to pension reform, but poor reform plans, and they intend to let their voice be heard in the demonstration.
