Taiwan in Process of Recalling Personnel, Students From Honduras 國防部召回駐宏國武官 軍訓學員照往例處理

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense is in the process of recalling staff from Honduras and says it will deal with the 44 military exchange students on both sides in accordance with past precedence. Many are wondering whether Taiwan will change its diplomatic policy to one of dual recognition in the wake of its latest ally loss.

Alex Po, Deputy National Defense Minister: “We will handle our (military academy students) and the others in accordance with past precedence. We will have a clearer answer for you soon.”

In the wake of Taiwan's latest diplomatic loss, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says any country that wants to strengthen relations with Taiwan can do so even if they are not diplomatic allies. Many are wondering whether Taiwan will change its diplomatic policy to one of dual recognition.

Wang Ting-yu, Legislator (DPP): “We would be more than happy to accept or incorporate the previous "gentlemen and thieves can't coexist" foreign relations policy, because far more countries in the world have diplomatic relations with China (than Taiwan). So, China should be the one that's worried because the ball is on their side of the court.”

Johnny Chiang, Legislator (KMT): “China has a great deal of international influence and excellent relations with Central American nations. Dual recognition is a complex issue because of the state that cross-Strait relations are in and the "one China, one Taiwan" policy.”

Cheng Wen-tsan, Vice Premier: “Taiwan pursues regional peace and democratic values. We will push for these with our friends that share these ideals and values.”

Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan says Taiwan will move forward with international friends that share its ideals. Johnny Chiang, meanwhile, says the U.S. and Japan should consider reestablishing diplomatic ties with Taiwan. In other news, the Ministry of National Defense says it has detected four PRC ships on the periphery of the Taiwan Strait.

台灣與宏都拉斯斷交，國防部強調派駐宏國武官，已經完成返國人事派職預畫。至於雙方軍訓學員共44人，將依照往例處理。

國防部副部長柏鴻輝指出：「我們在台的軍校學員或是在駐在國的，我們都會依照過去的往例來處理，近期就會有進一步的答案給大家。」

台宏斷交，外交部長吳釗燮表示，任何國家希望跟台灣強化關係，即使是非邦交國，也沒有排除任何狀況。我外交政策是否可能轉向「雙重承認」也引起多方討論。

民進黨立委王定宇指出：「我們都樂於接受，也會揚棄過去那種漢賊不兩立的外交策略，因為全世界跟中國建交的國家，相對是比台灣多很多，所以中國可能要比較擔心一點，這個球回到他那一邊。」

國民黨立委江啟臣提及：「隨著中國大陸在國際上的影響力，還有美中之間的關係，要做到所謂的雙重承認是有它的困難度的，因為這涉及到兩個中國的問題以及一中一台的問題。」

行政院副院長鄭文燦表示：「區域和平跟民主價值，是我們台灣所追求的最重要的方向，我們會跟國際上所有理念、價值相同的朋友們一起前進。」

鄭文燦說會跟理念相同的國際友人一起前進；江啟臣還呼籲美國跟日本可以考慮跟台灣復交。而就在台宏斷交之際，國防部公布偵獲4艘次共艦在台海周邊活動，顯示共軍擾台依舊不斷。
