Taiwan-US Companies Sign 7 MOUs
The Taiwan-US Technology Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework, or TTIC, meeting was held on the evening of the 13th Taiwan time. Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua witnessed Taiwanese companies such as AIDC, Taipower, QCT, and others sign 7 MOUs with American companies.
Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua witnessed Taiwan and US technology companies sign seven memorandums of cooperation on the evening of the 13th in Washington D.C. The MOUs were signed under the TTIC framework, hoping to seize the 5G technology market through Taiwan-US cooperation.
Yang Chih-ching, Deputy Director of Industrial Development Bureau:“The two sides will follow up to combine its 5G. Research and development will focus on industrial applications or smart audio-visual applications, which will be provided to third-party manufacturers to offer these services and demonstrate these related applications.”
Seven major MOUs were signed by Taiwan and the United States this time. This includes the cooperation between Taipower and GE for net zero carbon emissions. AIDC also will cooperate with GE on gas turbine generators and provide local maintenance services in Taiwan. In addition, companies such as HTC, Edgecore, and QCT will also cooperate with US companies on 5G networking technology. TMY Technology will cooperate with DuPont on business opportunities such as low-orbit satellites. The seven MOUs are expected to open up new business opportunities for Taiwanese and American companies. However, will Taiwan's semiconductor industry falter in the first half of next year, as predicted by TSMC CEO CC Wei? The U.S. has announced that it will reduce its dependence on Taiwanese semiconductors, which may impact the country's semiconductor supply chain.
Liu Pei-chen, Director of TIER Industry Economics Services:“Inventories must be adjusted due to weaker mid-supply chain demand. This will gradually reflect the entire semiconductor industry as a whole. There will indeed be a situation of gradual deterioration. An adjustment to the entire industry is expected to last until the second quarter of next year.”
It is still difficult for the United States to get rid of its dependence on Taiwan's semiconductors in the short term. However, experts believe that TSMC still dominates the semiconductor supply chain, so there is no need to worry too much.
